We have our newest batch of chicks. They are a little over a month old now. We have Golden Laced Wyandottes, Black Australorps, Rhode Island Reds, Americaunas, Cuckoo Marans, 5 misc. bantams (we got these at the feed store for 99 cents a piece so get rid of them), and 3 broilers. We should get a fun collection of colors in our eggs which will be fun to see this fall. We have to do a complete chicken turnover this year since chickens only lay well for 2 years. Next year, we will take a break from chick raising.
The garden has been started. Peas, salad, basil, and tomatoes are all in their beginning stages. We are a bit behind this year as far as gardening is concerned, but are in the process of trying to catch up a bit. Hoping to get flowers in my pots and the rest of the culinary herbs in the ground over the next 10 days.
We have also had a visitor to our yard this year!
The kids have named him Azul, from the Barbie movie. I have named him a pest. He bugs the chickens constantly. Calls all hours of the day and night. Swoops down on us mostly unawares. He comes and goes to all the surrounding farms. I won't mind if he flies off forever!
That is what our homestead has been up to lately. Next time, what we have been up to in school. And a graduation on the horizon.
